In the light of this year’s festive season, we wish to highlight and celebrate the many different traditions and personal stories of contemporary families.

For this piece, we want you to meet Anastasia, her husband and three boys, Jacob and Bille, both 3 years, and little Mio at 6 months.

WHAT DOES THE HOLIDAY SEASON MEAN TO YOU?

"I love, love, love the holiday season. Mainly, because our calendar is filled with family activities: baking Christmas cookies, attending Christmas parties, eating dinners together and celebrating birthdays. Christmas Eve is the beginning of many days spent together with our family in a summer house somewhere. It is absolute chaos with all the small children, but also just the best thing."

HOW AND WHERE DID YOU USUALLY SPEND YOUR TIME DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON GROWING UP?

"I have always altered between being with my mother or my father, so most holiday seasons looked different from each other - but in a good way. I am also an only child, so it means a lot to me to give my children a holiday season with siblings, cousins, uncles, grandparents, etcetera. This was my biggest wish growing up."

WERE THERE ANY TRADITIONS THAT YOU WISHED TO BE LIBERATED FROM?

"In our family, we have decided that gifts should never be the centre of Christmas eve. They do receive a couple of gifts from grandparents, but we have made an effort to limit the physical gifts and instead teach them that Christmas is about being together."

WHAT TRADITIONS ARE YOUR CHILDREN’S FAVOURITES?

"At 3,5 years of age, they might be too young to know what a tradition is, and so I don’t think they have a favourite one yet. But dancing around the Christmas tree with all the lights, while singing along with family members will definitely be so much fun for them this year."
