In the light of this year’s festive season, we wish to highlight and celebrate the many different traditions and personal stories of contemporary families.

WHAT DOES THE HOLIDAY SEASON MEAN TO YOU?

"To me, the Christmas holiday is something special. You spend a lot of time at home with your family, making decorations, baking, wrapping, and opening small surprises and preparing for the big celebration of Christmas Eve.

There is so much joy during the whole month, and I will never forget the feeling I had during December as a child. The best month of the whole year! I hope to pass this Christmas joy onto our daughter, Magda, through our traditions."

WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN THINKING OF THE WORD TRADITION?

"Traditions are something we create as a family. The traditions that I love and always look forward to are the ones that my parents passed on to me.

This Christmas, our daughter Magda is 2 years old, so this will be the first Christmas, where she will be old enough to participate and understand more of what we do together as a family.

From now on it will be my turn to make traditions for our little family in our own home. This is where she will grow up and make her own Christmas memories."

WHICH TRADITIONS ARE YOU PASSING ON TO YOUR CHILD?

"I remember how every December we would make biscuits and marzipan confectionary. It took an entire day, and being four children together, the kitchen was a mess.

We ate baked goodies fresh from the oven, listened to Christmas music and dipped the marzipan in chocolate. I will definitely try to make a day like this a yearly tradition for Magda as well."

HAVE YOU ADDED ANY NEW TRADITIONS TO YOUR OWN FAMILY?

"Starting this year, I will begin collecting the money from recycling bottles and cans during the whole year in a jar and make Magda a part of it.

When Christmas begins, we will go together to donate the saved money to children and families who struggle to afford Christmas food and presents. It is important to me, that Magda learns that Christmas is about caring and sharing, and that we are in a lucky position to help other children and families."
