Home for the holidays

The joy of giving

That feeling of wrapping up presents and including an extra sigh of love. Of waiting breathlessly as they untie the ribbon. Of seeing their happy faces when they realize what was hiding underneath the paper. That is the joy of giving.

TIME to be creative

Settle into the rhythm of scissors through paper. Notice the calm settling over the household, as you’re gathered around a colourful pile of paper, glue sticks and seasonal snacks. Wrapping presents, making clay ornaments, and letting the world outside be for a while.

recipe

make your own clay

Indgredients

1 dl cornstarch

2 dl baking soda

1,5 dl water

how to

Gather all ingredients in a small saucepan and mix well. Place on low heat and keep a close eye on the mixture, stirring it frequently to prevent it from burning. It will take a while for it to come together and start looking like modeling clay. Once it has, turn off the heat.

Pour the clay onto a cutting board or other heatproof surface and cover it with a damp cloth.  Allow to cool for 15-20 mins. If necessary, you can adjust the texture with additional cornstarch and kneading.

Once the clay is ready, it’s playtime! Shape it with your hands or roll out and cut into decorative shapes using cookie cutters and other utensils. If you’re making ornaments for hanging, remember to punch a small hole in the dough for the ribbon before drying. When you’re done, leave your items to dry for about two days, depending on the thickness of the clay and the humidity in your home.
